Mom and the Body of Christ

U.S. Journey Part 3… Coming Home with Mom.
November 11, 2022

Just a short post about the incredible Joy of being in the local body of Christ and how grateful I am for the creation of the local church.

Yesterday I took my mom to one of our local churches during their gathering. The effect on her was absolutely amazing. When she entered the gathering she began to smile. Soon she was clapping to the music and pointing to the dancing children. Surrounded by people who had pledged to help, comfort, and assist her she was like she had entered another world. The joy she witnessed was contagious and affected her immediately. She sat for almost an hour and soaked in the Spirit of God.

You see, my mom is 97 and struggles with severe Dementia. She has just recently (one week) entered a different culture, a different house, a different everything and it frightened her terribly. Yet, upon entering the Body of Christ everything became … safe.

She can only remember one chorus from a song that she sang her whole life …

“I SERVE A LIVING SAVIOR, HE’S IN THE WORLD TODAY… I KNOW THAT HE IS LIVING NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY. I SEE HIS HAND OF MERCY I HEAR HIS VOICE OF CHEER, AND EVERY TIME I NEED HIM … HE’S ALWAYS NEAR.”

The best place to see that Hand and hear that Voice is when and where His people live together in the unity of His Spirit. Psalm 130. Thank you, dear Jesus, for not leaving us alone. Psalm 133

We know that there will be challenges ahead, yet we do not face them alone. Crippling fear, drastic changes, catastrophic upheavals, and even dementia will fall before the Body of Christ.

Blessings
